This weekend the local HMGS-South group played a Sudan game using The Sword and the Flame colonial rules (20th Anniversary Edition). The scenario was called the Battle of El Sisi Landing, November 13, 1884.
Order of battle and victory conditions: Battle of El Sisi Landing
The British land and river force with the Mahdist fortifications in the distance. Additional Mahdist units were hidden in the terrain.
A fort defends the landing.
The two dowhs each had a gun.
This gun was destroyed early in the game by fire from the gunboat.
Sudanese infantry advances along the river supported by the gunboat.
The gunboat trades fire with the dowhs.
Hidden Mahdist units are discovered and slowly pushed back.
Cavalry melees occur on the landward flank.
Positions when the game ended.
The British had failed to reach the objective after about five hours of play.
That game sounds like fun. Awesome looking ships. I see some of “Gunboat Dan’s” great handmade handy work.
Cheers,
JB
